Historical Maps of Medieval Spain
About This Resource
These historical maps of the medieval Iberian Peninsula provide background to The Ornament of the World: How Muslims, Jews, and Christians Created a Culture of Tolerance in Medieval Spain by María Rosa Menocal. The maps show the advance of Muslim and then Christian-held territory in the Iberian Peninsula between the Umayyad caliphate of al-Andalus in the tenth century and the fall of Granada as the last Muslim kingdom of al-Andalus in 1492.
