Alhambra Virtual Walking Tour

About This Resource

A walker’s-eye view of a 1,000-year-old palace is provided in the Alhambra Virtual Walking Tour. The Alhambra is a hilltop stronghold in Granada, a city in the Spanish province of Andalusia.  Called Al-Andalus in Arabic,  Andalusia was ruled by Muslims from the eighth to the late fifteenth centuries. The Alhambra was constructed during the tenth century by  the last Muslim royal house to rule al-Andalus, the Nasrid dynasty.  The Virtual Walking Tour: Alhambra offers panoramic images and an audio guide to the palace complex. Saudi Aramco World Magazine published the virtual tour, which features photography and videos by Michael Gross and Barry Gross. The Alhambra’s place in Muslim and Spanish history is described in a volume in the Muslim Journeys Bookshelf series, The Ornament of the World: How Muslims, Christians, and Jews Created a Culture of Tolerance in Medieval Spain, by María Rosa Menocal.
