Timeline of Captives Embarked and Disembarked per Year
About This Resource
The timeline shows major events in the Atlantic slave trade between 1525 and 1867, when the import of slaves ended. The database chart shows estimates of the number of slaves embarked and disembarked for each year, the difference between the two being the loss of life of captives during the voyages. The chart is interactive on the Voyages website, allowing the viewer to see exact estimates year by year. The figures are based on ship manifests and other documentation from many sources collected by the creators of the site at Emory University.
